Stephanie Dubois-Rivera’s fourth graders at Phillips Avenue Elementary School expanded their English vocabulary through a science research project related to botany.
The students read books on plants, examined images and planted lima beans. To culminate the lesson, they teamed up in pairs to create informational posters on what they had learned. Poster topics ranged from all-encompassing summaries on plants to more specific studies on cacti and water lilies.
“I was truly impressed with how seriously the students took this project,” said Dubois-Rivera. “They worked together and took creative liberties to make their products eye-catching and informative.”
