Hybrid Assemblies Recognize Students

With traditional assemblies on hold due to COVID-19, Aquebogue Elementary School has been hosting monthly “hybrid” assemblies to recognize students’ accomplishments.

“In this challenging time, it’s more important than ever to find ways to stay upbeat and recognize all of the positives within our four walls, even when there is so much that’s negative outside,” said Principal Bryan Miltenberg.

The assemblies are livestreamed and broadcasted to each of the school’s classrooms, allowing the Student of the Month honorees to shine while being socially distanced. Each month features fun activities — during November’s assembly, for example, the entire school did burpees together to bring them over a goal of 50,000 burpees for cancer research.

“Understanding that we can accomplish more when we collectively care and act will be a lesson the children can take with them and apply almost constantly in their school, homes and communities,” said Assistant Principal Gary Karlson.
