Riley Avenue Elementary School in the Riverhead Central School District has named the first-place winners of its annual schoolwide science fair contest, who will next compete in Brookhaven National Laboratory’s Elementary Science Fair Competition on May 4. The winners in kindergarten through fourth grade are, respectively: Lucas Levesque, Taryn Burns, Juliana Paruolo, Cora D’Alsace and Amelia Stoddard. Their projects examined a variety of subjects, from eggs, pasta and slime to germs and fly traps. The school also debuted a science fair scavenger hunt this year, in which all students explored their peers’ projects to find listed items, as a way to further engage them in the fair.
