Positive Role Models Share Experiences with Students

January 6, 2020

To provide male students in the Riverhead Central School District with positive role models, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Aurelia Henriquez hosted the “Young Men on the Rise” program on Dec. 18, the third such event since the program’s inception.

During several mentoring sessions, male students throughout the district heard from a number of prominent male community members. The mentors spoke about the challenges they had overcome during their lives. Along with interviewing their mentors, the students participated in activities that aimed to provoke their thinking about their futures. The event ended with a meditation session.

“Positive male role models can have a profound effect on a student’s life,” said Dr. Henriquez. “This program is near and dear to my heart, and I know it has already made a difference with so many of our students.”
