The 35th annual “Say No to Drugs March,” sponsored by the Riverhead Community Awareness Program Inc. (CAP) will take place at Pulaski Street Elementary School on June 10. The march will kick off at 9:30 a.m. in front of the school, head south on Roanoke Avenue, then west on 2nd Street before returning to Pulaski Street School via Griffing and Hallett avenues.
CAP provides a two-year prevention program serving fifth and sixth graders at Pulaski Street School each year. Taught by community volunteers and student peer leaders, the program aims to prevent underage drinking and drug use in youth. Its foundation is rooted in building self-esteem and increasing healthy decision-making skills.
This year, Riverhead native and founder of “The Butterfly Effect Project” Tijuana Fulford, will be the honored guest and keynote speaker. Following the march, Ms. Fulford will address students and the community on the steps of Pulaski Street School. After the ceremony, the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1742 will serve a picnic lunch to students.
