Pulaski Street Elementary School fifth grade library students took part in an engaging virtual museum visit through a grant program made possible by the Long Island Library Resources Council and the Long Island Museum.
As part of the virtual visit, students viewed primary source documents, newspaper clippings, video footage, maps and timelines of New York in the 1800s via a livestream session. Students were able to note the inequalities of the time and learn about the struggle for equal rights as they interacted with educators from the museum.
“Students were moved by the presentation and wanted to engage with the museum docents,” library media specialist Ms. Estevez-Creedon said. “They saw the relevancy of reviewing these historical sources.”
