Fifth grade students at Pulaski Street Elementary School recently experienced a virtual author visit from children’s author Beth Anderson, who shared aspects of the research process with the students.
Anderson detailed how important it is to gather facts when presenting information about a historical figure, and she also emphasized the importance of understanding time and place.
In addition, Anderson explained to the students that it is important to bring the emotional core to the story to connect readers to the character’s experience and make the character come alive as a real person.
“The fifth graders were excited to participate in the author visit and asked very insightful questions,” library media specialist Ms. Estevez-Creedon said. “This experience is so important in demonstrating the writer’s process from beginning to end from the perspective of a writer.”
