The Riverhead Central School District was recently awarded a $600,000 Universal Prekindergarten Expansion Grant by the New York State Education Department. The grant provided by the state enables the district to expand its full-day universal prekindergarten availability for 4-year-old students.
“The district is truly excited to be named a recipient of the Prekindergarten Expansion Grant,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Augustine E. Tornatore. “Through this grant the district will be able to effectively expand our pre-K program and provide opportunities to more students in the Riverhead community.”
The New York State Education Department awarded these competitive grants based on a district’s plan to serve the community’s students, the level of existing prekindergarten services and the extent to which a district planned to maximize the total number of eligible students served in its programs. These funds may be used during the 2021-22 or 2022-23 school years.
