Riverhead Excitedly Enters the School Year
New Courses, Programs and Facilities and Communications Updates Headline Start of Year
RIVERHEAD, NEW YORK (SEPTEMBER 2023) — On Wednesday, September 6th, the Riverhead Central School District was overflowing with excitement as students were welcomed back to the halls of their buildings for the 2023–2024 school year. Students bounded over to their friends, teachers welcomed their new pupils, and everyone prepared for a year of learning, growth and joy.
“Our dedicated administrators, faculty and staff worked incredibly hard all summer to prepare for an amazing school year,” said Riverhead Central School District Superintendent Dr. Augustine E. Tornatore. “In addition to the updates to our facilities and our new communications system, ParentSquare, the 2023–2024 school year brings forth our elementary school dual language program, a greenhouse to teach agricultural farming and exceptional new high school courses, including AP classes and various fields of study. Many of these courses, such as Theater Performance and Production, Python Computer Programming and Video Game Design, will truly allow students to engage with their passions while offering unique learning experiences.”
The first week has already brought forth exciting lessons, activities and extracurriculars. Students at Pulaski Street Intermediate School spoke with famous author/illustrator Sean Rubin, known for his book This Very Tree: A Story of 9/11, Resilience, and Regrowth. Riverhead High School sports teams kicked off their seasons with significant wins. New professionals throughout the District were kindly welcomed by their colleagues and began to follow the six-word stories they set for themselves this year.
“We have a truly incredible year ahead of us,” said Dr. Tornatore. “We look forward to all of the success that lies ahead as our administrators, faculty, staff, students, families and residents work together as part of our Blue Waves community.”
