Riverhead Free Parent Café Workshop Provides Professional Licensing Information for Community Members

Event Educates Community and Supports Entrepreneurship

RIVERHEAD, NEW YORK (MARCH 2024)—The Riverhead Central School District hosted a free Parent Café workshop at Riverhead High School last week to provide community members with invaluable knowledge about professional licensing. Over 80 community members attended the event to enhance their expertise and opportunities.

“We foster the skills, goals, and achievements of our students every day,” said Riverhead Central School District Interim Superintendent Cheryl Pedisich. “We are eager to use our Parent Café workshops to support community members as well and help guide them on their paths of success and encourage ingenuity, entrepreneurship, and preparedness.”

In coordination with OLA of Eastern Long Island, the New York State Department of Labor, and local business Café Victoria, the Riverhead Central School District taught attendees about the requirements, testing, license renewal, and financial information necessary to create a corporation or LLC. The Department of Labor’s Matthew Cereola served as keynote speaker, and Café Victoria shared their success story and provided delicious coffee and pastries for the event.

The district’s inaugural Parent Café took place in January and assisted community members with GED preparedness, office skills, and e-class programs. Through a generous grant from the Long Island Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) of Brentwood, free access to Rosetta Stone, Microsoft Office Suite certification courses, Quickbooks courses, and GED preparation courses was provided in English and Spanish. The Long Island EOC of SUNY Farmingdale helped to expand accessibility to these resources as well.
