Riverhead High School Softball Players and Coach Receive Top Newsday Honors

For their tremendous performances this season, Riverhead High School’s Mya Marelli and Jordyn Kwasna were named to Newsday’s all-Long Island softball first and second teams, respectively. As a pitcher, Mya achieved a 1.34 ERA, striking out 130 in 72 2/3 innings, and at the plate, she hit .473 with a 1.363 OPS, four home runs, and 35 RBIs. Jordyn hit .451 with a 1.216 OPS, three home runs, 26 RBIs, and 32 runs.

In addition, Coach Rich Vlacci Jr. was named Newsday’s Suffolk Coach of the Year, leading Riverhead High School to its first softball county championship in program history and consecutive league titles for the first time in over 50 years. Congratulations to Mya, Jordyn, Coach Vlacci, and the entire team on their remarkable season!
