Riverhead HS Assistant Principal Appointed

July 8, 2021

The Riverhead Central School District is pleased to announce that it has named Dr. William R. Galati as a new assistant principal of Riverhead High School, effective Aug. 2. He joins Assistant Principals Kellyann Parlato and Nicole Taylor and Principal Sean O’Hara on the school’s administrative team.

“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Galati to the district,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Augustine E. Tornatore. “We are positive the district will benefit from his appointment.”

Galati, of St. James, joins Riverhead from the Hewlett-Woodmere Union Free School District, where he served as high school principal since 2018. In that position, among other duties, he advanced opportunities for students by championing a “Challenge Up” vision and philosophy and worked to provide positive and engaging learning experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. He is also an adjunct professor of mathematics at Suffolk County Community College.

Prior to Hewlett-Woodmere, Galati was principal of Southold Junior-Senior High School for nine years. He also worked in the William Floyd UFSD in several administrative capacities, including assistant secondary administrator for instruction and administration and associate principal of William Paca Middle School. He began his career as a science teacher.

Galati holds a B.S. in mathematics from Mount St. Mary’s University, a master’s in liberal studies and mathematics from Stony Brook University, and a doctorate in educational administration and supervision from St. John’s University. He also holds dual certification in math and science, along with certification in earth science, biology, chemistry and general science.

“I greatly appreciate being selected for the assistant principal position at Riverhead High School,” said Galati. “I look forward to working collaboratively with the building and district administrative teams, along with our dedicated teachers, building stakeholders and families, to enrich, empower and prepare the students of Riverhead High School with the skills and learning needed to achieve in the 21st century and beyond.”
