Five Students Medal at Eastern Long Island Competition
RIVERHEAD, NEW YORK (FEBRUARY 2023) — The Riverhead High School Science Olympiad team recently displayed remarkable talent as they competed in the Eastern Long Island Competition at Hauppauge High School. In just their second season, the team moved up five positions in the rankings and had five team members medal in the competition.
“We are all incredibly proud of the success the Science Olympiad team has had thus far,” said Riverhead Central School District Superintendent Dr. Augustine E. Tornatore. “I am sure they will only continue to thrive as they accumulate further experience and enhance their skills.”
The team was led by Riverhead High School science teacher Riley McHugh. Students medaling in the Scrambler, Trajector and Wi-Fi Lab events included David Brzozowski, Ezekiel Herb, Lorelei Hoenig, Jasmin Martinez-Ortiz and Kiara Chabla Sarmiento.
“We cannot wait to see where the dedication of new and old members alike brings us,” said Mr. McHugh. “I would also like to recognize former member Alvin Levik for his help with the events and supervision of the team.”
