Six Riverhead High School student-artists were recognized for their artwork in the Student Exhibition at the Parrish Art Museum. The following students received awards: Brianna Daman for Sculpture, Gio Maffetone for Sculpture, Angie Flores Ortiz for Drawing, Shakya Jeudy for Digital Media, Christopher McDonald for Drawing, Hannah Witt for Drawing and Carolina Marin for Digital Media.
Additionally, Advanced Ceramics student Brianna Daman was selected to be in the Amoca High School Ceramics Exhibition. The virtual opening reception was April 9 and the exhibition runs through August. She was one of 100 students selected.
When asked about her passion for art, Brianna said, “I’ve always had a passion for country and was never able to express it, so when given the chance to create something I was passionate about, I went with your friendly neighborhood sheriff to capture my love for all things country. My intention wasn’t to create it just for exhibits, but I felt that this was a piece to be proud of and wanted others to enjoy this goofy cowboy as much as I do. While creating the piece, I dealt with a lot of difficulties, figuring out proportions and how to execute this insane plan in my head. I was very stubborn and was determined to find a way and, in the end, it turned out exactly how I imagined it, and I’m proud to call it my own.”
