Riverhead Teacher Named Suffolk Zone Health Education Teacher of the Year
Riverhead High School’s Lindsay Lindenbaum Honored by NYS AHPERD
RIVERHEAD, NEW YORK (JULY 2025)—Lindsay Lindenbaum, a Riverhead High School health education teacher, was recently named the 2025 Suffolk Zone High School Health Education Teacher of the Year by the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (NYS AHPERD).
“The district proudly congratulates Ms. Lindenbaum on this well-deserved honor,” said Riverhead Central School District Superintendent Dr. Robert Hagan. “Her selection reflects her remarkable contributions to the health education field and the academic experiences of our students. We look forward to her continued contributions to the success of our scholars and entire district community.”
Presented annually since 1995, the NYS AHPERD Suffolk Zone Professional Awards honor exemplary educators who demonstrate innovation, leadership, and a commitment to student well-being. Nominees must meet NYS AHPERD membership requirements and possess at least ten years of teaching experience, professional affiliations, presentations or publications, honors and awards, community service experience, professional development participation, quality program delivery, sensitivity to the needs of students, and outstanding civility, character, and citizenship. The NYS AHPERD Suffolk Zone Professional Awards committee selects several exceptional recipients each year across the elementary, middle, and high school levels in the fields of health education, physical education, adapted physical education, and dance education.
Ms. Lindenbaum will be honored at the NYS AHPERD Suffolk Zone Conference on November 4th, 2025 and received an invitation to the Suffolk Awards Dinner in January 2026 in recognition of her achievement as well.
