Three years of planning and coordination culminated on June 1 with the unveiling of a Veterans Wall of Honor at Riverhead High School. The patriotic wall, located in the high school’s auditorium lobby, honors 89 veterans and fallen soldiers who attended Riverhead’s schools.
“The PFC Garfield M. Langhorn Veterans Wall of Honor will serve as an example to all who walk through these halls,” said Riverhead High School Principal Sean O’Hara. “It will remind us each day of those who have given us freedom.”
The wall came to fruition through a collaboration between the Riverhead School District and the Town of Riverhead’s Board and Veterans Advisory Committee. It is named for a Riverhead graduate who was killed in service during the Vietnam War.
“All those being recognized have walked the halls of our schools,” said Riverhead Interim Superintendent of Schools Christine Tona. “They will always be remembered by our staff, teachers and students who now and will walk the halls of the high school.”
The district plans to add more names to the wall every Veterans Day. Application for consideration can be accessed here:
