Riverhead’s Ava Micari Named One of Long Island’s Top Cheerleaders

Senior Flyer Achieves Academic and Athletic Success

RIVERHEAD, NEW YORK (JANUARY 2026)—Riverhead High School senior Ava Micari was recently named to Newsday’s list of the top 50 Long Island high school cheerleaders for the 2025-2026 season. A captain and standout flyer, Ava competes in traditional and game day routines at the county and national levels while spreading Blue Waves pride at football and basketball games.

“Ava shines in the air, consistently pushing herself to reach the highest level of performance to support the team,” said Riverhead High School cheerleading head coach Stephanie Piraino. “Beyond her athletic ability, she is a respected school leader and youth cheer mentor whose unmatched character, work ethic, and commitment make her an exceptional role model.”

Ava Micari is also known for her remarkable success in the classroom. Following her graduation from Riverhead High School, she plans to study nursing in college.
