Riverhead’s Hector Calderon Named One of Long Island’s Top Boys Soccer Players

Senior Named Team MVP, AAA All-League Player Last Season

RIVERHEAD, NEW YORK (SEPTEMBER 2026)—Riverhead High School senior Hector Calderon was named to Newsday’s list of the top 100 Long Island high school boys soccer players for the 2026 season.

“The game comes naturally to Hector,” said Riverhead boys varsity soccer head coach Nic DeZenzo. “He has an advanced understanding of the field and anticipates plays before they develop, with the skill to bring those plays to life through his passing, dribbling, and shooting ability.”

Serving as a forward and midfielder for the Blue Waves, Hector was named the team’s MVP last season and earned AAA all-league honors, despite missing three games due to injury. In 2025, he scored 12 goals and contributed multiple assists.

“Hector’s leadership has matured quickly, and he makes the players around him better each day,” Coach DeZenzo said.
