Welcome to Riverhead Middle School! 

Riverhead Middle School is a vibrant and supportive learning community proudly serving approximately 800 students in grades 7 and 8. Backed by a dedicated team of 110 professional staff members, we are committed to providing an enriching, well-rounded educational experience that fosters academic achievement, personal growth, and social development. 

At RMS, we live by the values of P.R.I.D.E.—Present, Respectful, Independent, Diverse, and Empowered. These guiding principles are woven into the fabric of our school culture, helping to shape a positive environment where students feel seen, heard, and supported. Through our PRIDE initiative, we encourage students to embody these traits in and out of the classroom. 

Our diverse student body is supported by a passionate and collaborative staff made up of both veteran educators and emerging professionals. Together, we create a nurturing atmosphere where every child’s unique learning needs are met. We strongly encourage family engagement and ongoing communication between home and school. RMS also maintains a firm commitment to anti-bullying and the emotional safety of all students. 

Academically, Riverhead Middle School offers a rigorous curriculum in core subjects: English Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, World Language and Physical Education, and Health. Advanced learners benefit from accelerated Math in Grade 7 and the opportunity to take Algebra I, Living Environment, or Studio Art in Grade 8. Our world language offerings include Spanish, French, and Spanish Language Arts, helping students build global awareness and communication skills. 

We are proud to offer a wide array of special area courses that support creativity, practical skills, and student interests, including Art, Art Animation, Music, Chorus, Orchestra, Band, Technology, Family & Consumer Science, and Financial Literacy. 

Outside the classroom, RMS students thrive in a variety of extracurricular activities, including after-school clubs, athletic teams, and our celebrated Middle Masques Drama Club. These programs help students discover their passions, develop leadership skills, and form lasting connections.
