Roanoke Avenue Elementary School is a K-4 school with approximately 400 students.
Roanoke is once again “certified” as a KINDNESS school by the Great Kindness Challenge standards. Roanoke is also a recipient of the Suffolk Reading Council Honor School award.
The Roanoke Avenue School is especially proud that it has the distinction of having been chosen as a National Blue Ribbon School. Roanoke’s building is a historical landmark.
Popular events include its Reading Week, its Great Kindness Challenge and innovative reading and writing programs, such as “Poetry Jams,” a program whereby students write and recite original poetry. This is just one of the many creative end-of-unit Writers Workshop celebrations that reflects the school’s partnership with Columbia Teachers College.
Art, library, computer lab, music and PE are not separate entities, but are integral to Roanoke’s students’ overall learning experience.
