SibShop Inaugurated at Aquebogue

April 23, 2021

A new national program, SibShop, has launched at Aquebogue Elementary School in the Riverhead Central School District.

Under the direction of school psychologist Jennifer Weintraub, the independently run program provides support for siblings of students with special needs through discussion, crafts and team building. SibShop participants are able to bond with their peers through shared experiences.

“This program has helped students meet other students, some even within their own classrooms, and develop an unbreakable bond,” said Weintraub.

Weintraub inaugurated the program at Aquebogue after being introduced to it by Assistant Principal Gary Karlson.

“After attending the certification training and hearing firsthand from siblings how beneficial the program has been, we couldn’t wait to start it here in Aquebogue,” said Weintraub.
