What is Section 504?

The Committee on Section 504’s purpose is to provide students with physical or mental impairments that substantially limit the students’ ability to engage in major life activities, with the appropriate educational services designed to meet the individual needs of such students to the same extent as the needs of students without disabilities are met. The Section 504 Regulation requires a school district to provide a “free and appropriate public education (FAPE) to each qualified student with a disability who is in the school district, regardless of the nature or severity of the disability.
