Students Participate in Peer Mediation Training

March 19, 2021

A group of fifth graders at Pulaski Street Elementary School recently participated in peer mediation training by EAC Network’s Long Island Dispute Resolution Center.

Alongside teachers, the students discussed the process of guiding disputes, avoiding judgments and knowing the keys to effective communication. They also learned a mediation technique that helps students in a conflict resolve their disputes and create their own solutions using shared problem-solving. In addition, they focused on hearing out different perspectives, actively listening and creating agreements.

“We are proud of these students,” said Amelia Estevez Creedon, the school’s library media specialist. “They learned skills that will help them succeed and work cooperatively in school and in their future careers.”
