The Riverhead Central School District Technology Plan provides a strategic framework for how technology supports teaching, learning, communication, and the efficient operation of our schools. Developed with input from the District Technology Committee, the plan reflects the district’s commitment to providing students and staff with equitable access to technology, supporting effective instruction, and preparing students for success in an increasingly digital world.

Technology planning in Riverhead has evolved over many years. The district’s original technology plan was developed as a living document that outlined the Technology Committee’s vision for the use of technology throughout the district. Today, the district’s technology planning process is aligned with the New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Instructional Technology Plan requirements.

Under New York State Commissioner’s Regulation Part 100.12, public school districts are required to develop and maintain an Instructional Technology Plan. NYSED collects and reviews key information from these plans through a three-year Instructional Technology Plan survey. The survey provides a framework for districts to document their technology goals and strategies while allowing districts to develop more comprehensive local technology plans that reflect the needs of their school communities.

Riverhead has built upon this planning process by expanding access to instructional technology across the district. The district has established a 1:1 device initiative, providing dedicated devices for students across grade levels, including iPads in the elementary grades and Chromebooks in the upper grades.

Our technology planning continues to evolve as instructional needs and technology change. The district’s priorities include supporting high-quality digital learning, expanding equitable access to technology, providing professional learning for staff, protecting student and staff information, and maintaining secure and reliable technology systems. These efforts are guided by New York State requirements, including those related to student data privacy and security under Education Law §2-d.

Technology is an important part of the educational experience in Riverhead. Through ongoing planning, evaluation, and collaboration, the district works to ensure that technology is used purposefully to enhance learning, support educators, improve district operations, and help prepare every student for college, career, and life beyond the classroom.
